RuralZED has been designed to provide zero carbonlow to medium density housing solutions for the 70% of the UK that is built up to 50 homes / ha. It hasredefined what is technically possible and mergedthe important ‘Placemaking’ agenda with the ‘zerocarbon house’. A range of specification optionshave been developed to provide a full zero carbonspecification or be gradually upgradable over anumber of years.RuralZEDTM has a hybrid laminated timber frame, strong enough to support thermally massive walls, floor finishes and ceilings. It has been designed toprovide flexible masterplan options allowing allorientations. The system encourages local varietyand materials encouraging the development of thelocal vernacular. One major advantage of using kitsystems is the ability to provide fixed prefabricatedkit prices with volume discounts. This greatly helpsin the drive to bring down prices in an industry thatis still fearful of the added cost of low/ zero carbonhousing.
Low embodied energy building
Timber Structure
Developed with a brick manufacturer is a self firing clay brick that can be placed in timber beams to provide low carbon thermal mass to dwellings
Airtight Construction
In order to keep the valuable heat and coolth in , the building should have as little uncontrolled ventilation as possible, particularly during the heating season.
